night stepping
Monday night, extends out, connected by fat drops of water, streaming from a green garden hose. Nemesio’s dad is here, to feed his garden, which is in our backyard. It is such a beautiful garden, full of vegetables, lined with beautiful flowers, he even repotted some of the plants I managed to murder last year, I will not say I am a horrible gardener, because I believe if I put a little effort into it I could do it, but admittedly I tend to forget about the flowering foliage in the clay pots around the windows, and consequently I usually end up with a garden of dehydrated brown spider like plants, that crumble and cry between my fingers…what a mess. But I am going to try again this year, and I mean really try this time, because this time I am getting a jade tree, one of my favorite plants, they are so waxy and cartoonish, kind of the green growing thing I would like to be if I were a green growing thing.
Tonight is almost to good to be true, a Toronto evening at it’s best, the kind I remember from when I was a child, when we would play hide and seek in the back alley’s behind Marion street. The city evening has an odd thickness, I could always picture it as a large bulbous shadow beast, a giant blobby creature sitting over top of us, it’s bum sinking into all the creases made by houses folding over each other. Tonight is humming, there is heat crawling up my legs, and my belly is full of barbequed corn. It is good.
There has been lots going on these days, mostly with the monster factory’s new office/studio space. We spent the weekend building walls, and desks, painting coats northern air (a light blue) over table frames and the door, hammering, drilling, the work seems the endless, but the end result is going to be amazing.
Adam and Bliss are off to NYC in a couple of weeks for business, a trip I could sadly not afford this year, but there will be plenty for me to do back here in t.o., especially preparing for the outdoor art show which will be happening in July. There are also going to be some special visitors from afar this summer, who I can’t wait to see!!! I am so glad the warm season is here!
Oh oh oh and how could I forget, the bot and I bought bikes last weekend! It is sooo awesome, I have been zipping all over the west end, and I love it, it’s so fast to bike. I have a great helmet and a nice little ding bell, the office is less than a ten minute ride away, this is a nice change for me, since for the last year there has been a ton of t.t.c. commuting eating up my days and my wallet. I am still a little nervous about all the traffic, so I am sticking to back streets and a slow pace, so far so good.
Well, it is Monday Movie night, so I am off.
Ps. Meena, Dave is a new character I am working on, he is based loosely on the Bot, (but very loosely), I will put some pics up of the books I have made of him.
